1 big thing: Past Due Special Education Evaluations Decreased by 82% Over Last Year
Roughly a year into implementing our comprehensive plan to address the backlog of Special Education evaluations to better meet the needs of students with disabilities, were beginning to see clear signs that the plan is working.
By the Numbers: The district completed more than two and a half times as many evaluations in Fall 2023 than we completed in Fall 2022 a 153% increase!
From January to December 2023, the total past due evaluations decreased by 82% from 1780 to 306.
In January 2023, only 52% of initial evaluations were completed within the required 45 school days, compared to December 2023 when nearly 99% of evaluations were completed within the required timeframe.
Quality Over Compliance: We have quality controls in place to ensure the evaluations are thorough and appropriately tailored to each child.
Where we stand: In our Agreed Order with TEA weve committed to completing all evaluations within timeline by December 2025. If we maintain our current momentum, we could be in a position to reach that goal sooner.
The bottom line: We realize that every past-due evaluation represents a child weve not managed to serve. Were committed to not only catching up on our backlog, but implementing sustainable systems that ensure each child receives the high-quality instruction and services they deserve.

The budget process for the 2024-25 school year has begun!
What to know: The 熱えapp Finance Department presented a to the school board and explained how well work to reduce our $52 million budget deficit for this fiscal year.
The department is focusing on some key areas within the district to reduce the deficit.

What theyre saying: Our goal is to reduce our overall budget deficit by 50%. Once a budget is adopted we begin to perform budgetary reviews, making sure they align with the district scorecard and initiatives, said, Eduardo Ramos, chief financial officer at 熱えapp. That process is year-round as we continually monitor our budgets.
Whats Next: Well present a preliminary budget to the board in April and the final budget is scheduled to be adopted in June.

Salute is 熱えapps annual celebration to recognize some of the districts outstanding campus-based team members for their continued dedication to student excellence and achievement in our schools. District staff, families and the community are invited to nominate a campus staff member they believe represents the very best of AISD.
Big news: For 2024, we're expanding our Salute Awards and recognizing campus staff in TEN categories! The winners will be celebrated at our Salute Awards ceremony on May 8, where we will also honor Teachers of Promise and Teachers of the Year.

Salute es la celebraci籀n anual del 熱えapp en la que se reconoce a algunos de los miembros m獺s destacados del distrito escolar por su continua dedicaci籀n a la excelencia y los logros de los estudiantes en nuestras escuelas. Se invita al personal del distrito, a las familias y a la comunidad en general a que presenten una nominaci籀n para un miembro del personal del campus que crean que representa lo mejor del 熱えapp.
Una gran noticia: Para el 2024, ampliaremos nuestros premios Salute y reconoceremos al personal de los campus en DIEZ categor穩as. Los ganadores ser獺n celebrados en nuestra ceremonia de premios Salute el 8 de mayo, donde tambi矇n honraremos a los Maestros m獺s prometedores y a los Maestros del a簽o.

Tormenta invernal 2021 en Austin
A繳n recuerdo el primer a簽o que me mud矇 a Austin. Tuvimos una tormenta invernal muy fea y me toc籀 cubrirla como reportera de Univision. Fue una situaci籀n dif穩cil para muchos de nosotros que no tuvimos electricidad por d穩as.
